Herd extends undefeated record to 4-0 with home win
OSHKOSH, WI (Nov. 19, 2021)- The Wisconsin Herd, the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, won the team’s second home game over the Fort Wayne Mad Ants with a final score of 111-108. With 21.8 seconds left in the game Sam Cunliffe delivered a three point and-one-shot to put the Herd up 109-108. With nine seconds left, Georgios Kalaitzakis was sent to the free throw line and sealed the game with two made free throws.
The Fort Wayne Mad Ants came out strong in the first half, building a 7-0 lead over the Herd. They maintained the lead for the entire first half with no lead changes. The Mad Ants held the biggest lead of the game by 18. The Herd answered in the second half with a 25-6 run to put the team up 77-73. Wisconsin continued its run ending the game with a 111-108 victory.
Wenyen Gabriel led the Herd with 19 points and Rayjon Tucker added 18. For his first game with the Herd, Milwaukee Bucks assignment player Georgios Kalaitzakis came in third for scorers with 15. Sandro Mamukelashvili, a two-way player with the Milwaukee Bucks, played in his first game with Herd and tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Fort Wayne Mad Ants were led by Duane Washington Jr. with 27 points. Terry Taylor, from the Fort Wayne Mads Ants, posted a double-double with 23 points and 19 rebounds. Bennie Boatwright also had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
After no lead changes in the first half, there were 11 lead changes and 6 times tied in the second half. The Mad Ants outscored the Herd in the paint (56-42) and second chance points (21-15). Both teams shot under 50.0% in field goals and three-pointers. The Fort Wayne Mad Ants shot 37.8% in field goals and 25.0% from three-point range. The Wisconsin Herd shot 29.8% in field goals and 37.0% from beyond the arc.
Wenyen Gabriel had a team-high four blocks tonight, and Jemerrio Jones posted a team high 11 rebounds.
In the first half, the Wisconsin Herd had nine turnovers leading to 15 points for the Mad Ants. On the other side, the Mad Ants had four turnovers resulting in five points for the Herd.
Wisconsin Herd will play the Fort Wayne Mad Ants again at home on Sunday, November 21st at 5:30 p.m. CST.
