WISCONSIN HERD SECURE OVERTIME WIN AGAINST GRAND RAPIDS

The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, beat the Grand Rapids Gold in overtime 114 – 111.

Lindell Wigginton propelled the Herd with 19 points while Wenyen Gabriel and TyTy Washington Jr. added 16 apiece.

The Gold’s top scorer was Braxton Key with a double-double of 29 points and 15 rebounds followed by Jalen Pickett with 27 points.

Wenyen Gabriel hit the first basket of the game, but the Gold answered with back-to-back shots to take the lead. The Herd deficit fluctuated between 1-3 points until the five-minute mark when the Gold pushed ahead by eight points. TyTy Washington Jr. hit a layup to pause Gold’s run momentarily. Grand Rapids remained full steam ahead, grabbing a double-digit advantage. Alex Antetokounmpo closed out the quarter with a successful three-point play to put the Herd within 12 points. Grand Rapids hit a last-minute three to go up 37-22.

Grand Rapids continued to control the game, outscoring the Herd 13-8 to go ahead 51 – 30 at the six-minute mark in the second quarter. Stevie Thompson Jr. and Jazian Gortman hit two consecutive threes before the Gold pushed ahead to a 20-point edge.  The Herd rallied with a strong 18 – 8 run to cut the Gold’s lead to 12 at the half. Grand Rapids led 64-52 at the break. Wenyen Gabriel guided the Herd with 12 points.

TyTy Washington opened the third quarter for the Herd with a deep three to break Grand Rapids’s advantage to less than double digits. The Gold responded with consecutive baskets before TyTy Washington hit his second three in a minute. Lindell Wigginton connected on successive baskets to inch the Herd closer. Wisconsin made an offensive surge to come back and tie the game 80-80 after a Drew Timme layup. The Gold converted one last basket to take the lead 83-80 at the end of the third quarter.

Grand Rapids hit two more baskets to take an eight-point edge to start the fourth quarter. The Herd responded with a 9-2 run to come within two points with six minutes remaining in the game. Grand Rapids created space with seven consecutive points.  The Herd rallied to come within three points at the two-minute mark. The teams traded baskets until the Herd hit back-to-back shots to make it a one-point game. TRADED. Lindell Wigginton put away a layup to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Marques Bolden hit the first basket of the overtime period to bring the herd two points closer to the target score of 113. The two teams traded baskets before Wenyen Gabriel threw in a dunk. Marques Bolden tipped in a missed shot to secure the win for the Herd. Wisconsin Herd beat the Grand rapids Gold 114 -111.
