WISCONSIN HERD FALLS TO STARS

The Wisconsin Herd, the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, lost to the Salt Lake City Stars 135-100. The Herd took an early lead in the first quarter, but the Stars powered ahead to a seven-point lead at the end of the quarter. The Herd fell to a costly run in the second quarter allowing the Stars to gain a 13-point lead which later increased to a 19-point advantage at the half. The Herd battled back in the third quarter hitting a huge 14-2 run, but the Stars responded with 12 straight points pushing them ahead by 24 at the break. The Stars closed out the game by outscoring the Herd 34-23 in the fourth quarter.

Rob Edwards led the Herd with 17 points while Jontay Porter added a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Johnny Juzang guided the Stars with 25 points followed by Stacy Davis with 24 points.

The Stars scored the first two baskets of the game, but Iverson Molinar and Lindell Wigginton combined to score five points to grab the Herd’s first lead of the game. Jontay Porter and Elijah Hughes hit back-to-back baskets each to tie the game 15-15 at the five-minute mark. The Stars responded with eight unanswered points. The Herd worked their way back to within three points but the Stars scored the last two baskets of the first quarter to lead 29-22.

Elijah Hughes hit his third three of the game to open the second quarter. The Stars answered with a three of their own, but the Herd hit two straight baskets to cut down the Stars’ lead. The Stars didn’t slow down, hitting a 12-2 run to grab a 13-point lead. Lindell Wigginton stopped the run with a jump shot while Rob Edwards followed with five points. The Stars hit three straight three-pointers to go ahead by 20 points with four minutes left. The two teams traded baskets until Iverson Molinar completed back-to-back three-point plays. Rob Edwards and Iverson Molinar each added a basket to close out the first half. The Stars held a 69-50 point advantage at the half. Elijah Hughes led the Herd with 11 points.

Salt Lake City opened the third quarter with seven consecutive points until Jontay Porter hit a three-point shot to stop their run. The Herd powered back outscoring the Stars 14-2 to cut Salt Lake City’s lead down to 14 points. The two teams traded baskets until the Stars scored 12 succeeding points to lead 92-66 at the two-minute mark. Paris Bass and Deividas Sirvydis added a basket each to slow down the Stars. Lindell Wigginton scored four points while Jontay Porter followed with a three to close out the third quarter, the Stars led 101-77.

Rob Edwards and Alex Antetokounmpo completed a free throw each to begin the fourth quarter. The Stars built a 30-point lead with nine minutes remaining in the game. Jontay Porter swished a three-point shot but the Stars hit a hot streak of 14-2 to go ahead 127-88 at the four-minute mark. Alex Antetokounmpo and Brandon Sampson combined for nine points while Paris Bass closed out the game with a three-point bucket. The Stars beat the Herd 135-100.

The Herd will take on the Stars in the second game of the back-to-back series tomorrow, February 28th with tip-off set for 8:00 p.m. CST.
