TREMONT WATERS EARNS NBA CALL-UP WITH TORONTO RAPTORS

OSHKOSH, Wis. (December 22, 2021) – The Toronto Raptors announced they have signed Wisconsin Herd guard Tremont Waters to a 10-day hardship contract. This will be the fourth NBA Call-up of the season for the Wisconsin Herd.

Waters appeared and started in 13 games for the Herd this season, averaging 17.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.7 steals. Waters currently leads the team in points per game, assists per game and steals per game. He averages 31.9 minutes per game while shooting 43.2% for field goals, 36.4% for three-pointers and 71.4% for free throws.

Tremont Waters holds many team season-high records including 31 points in one game, seven made 3-pointers in one game, 12 assists in one game and six steals in one game. In only 13 games, Waters moved into 10th for the Wisconsin Herd All-Time Top Ten Rankings for steals with 33. Waters scored in double digits in 11 games including three 20+ point efforts and one 30+ point effort.

Waters was selected by the Boston Celtics with the 51st pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He was signed to a two-way contract for the 2019-20 season with the Boston Celtics and the Maine Red Claws. He appeared in 36 games for the Red Claws and averaged 18.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 7.3 assists. Tremont Waters was named NBA G League Rookie of the Year for the 2019-20 season. He also appeared in 11 games for the Boston Celtics and averaged 3.6 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

In 2020-21, Waters appeared in 26 games for the Boston Celtics averaging 3.8 points, 0.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists.

A hardship contract is a temporary roster spot that allows teams to add more players beyond their roster limit. Teams are allowed to do this when they have experienced multiple players being out due to injury or illness.  

The Wisconsin Herd will return to action at home on Monday, December 27th when they take on the Long Island Nets with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. CST.
