HERD WINS COMEBACK IN OVERTIME AGAINST THE CELTICS

The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, beat the Maine Celtics 118-116 in overtime. Similar to the game before, the two teams entered a close battle resulting in five lead changes and two times tied. The Herd dominated offensively in the first quarter shooting 63.6% from the field goal range to take a 35-22 lead. Maine overthrew the Herd early in the second quarter to take a 57-51 lead. The Herd rallied to take the lead, but Maine made a small run to take advantage. Maine opened the fourth quarter with a 12-0 run but the Herd got two huge stops that converted to fastbreak points for Paris Bass. The Herd fed off the energy to come within seven points with four minutes remaining. Lindell Wigginton overtook the game scoring the next 15 of the Herd’s 17 points to tie the game 111-111. The two teams went back and forth in the overtime period resulting in 14 missed shots before Paris Bass completed a putback layup to win the game for the Herd.

Lindell Wigginton guided the Herd to victory with 35 points followed by Milwaukee Bucks assignment player MarJon Beauchamp with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. A.J. Green also posted 20 points.

The Maine Celtics were led by Mfiondu Kabengele with a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds while Scottie Lindsey added 13 points.

The Maine Celtics opened the game with a three-point shot and the two teams traded baskets until Paris Bass threw down an empathic dunk at the six-minute mark to put the Herd ahead 9-8. The Celtics responded to take the lead, but Lindell Wigginton secured a layup to tie the game. The two teams battled back and forth until A.J. Green connected on two uninterrupted buckets to put the Herd up. Wisconsin outscored the Celtics 15-3 in the last two minutes, which was led by Rob Edward’s consecutive three-point baskets. The Herd held a 35-22 advantage at the end of the first quarter thanks to their hot shooting.

Maine rallied at the beginning of the second quarter, scoring the first 18 points to take a 40-35 point lead at the seven-minute mark. Alex Antetokounmpo and Lindell Wigginton each scored a basket to keep the Herd within three. Wisconsin went on an 8-0 run to take the lead with four minutes remaining in the game. The Celtics then dropped seven unanswered points. Maine held on to lead 57-51 at the end of the first half. Milwaukee Bucks Two-way players Lindell Wigginton (11) and A.J. Green (10) led the Herd in scoring.

The Herd scored five straight three-point baskets, including two from MarJon Beauchamp, to take the lead 66-62 at the start of the third quarter. The Celtics responded by coming within one point, but Rob Edwards swished a three to keep the Herd ahead momentarily. The two teams traded the lead three times before the Celtics scored the last seven points to take an 84-77 lead at the end of the third quarter.

A.J. Green swished a three-pointer to score the first points of the fourth quarter. The Celtics answered with a 12-0 run to go ahead by 16 points. Paris Bass scored a floater at the eight-minute mark to end Maine’s run. Lindell Wigginton hit two shots and Paris Bass converted on two steals to cut down Maine’s lead to 11. The Celtics converted one bucket before A.J. Green completed a layup. Lindell Wigginton outscored Maine 10-6 to bring the Herd within three points with two minutes remaining. The Celtics scored the next two baskets to grab a seven-point lead. Paris Bass completed two free throws at the one-minute mark to bring the Herd within five. Lindell Wigginton scored a three-point shot with 40 seconds left in the game and a layup with four seconds left to send the game into overtime with a score of 111-111.

The target score for the overtime period was set to 118. The Celtics scored the first basket of the overtime, but Lindell Wigginton hit his fifth three-pointer to tie the game 113-113. After three missed shots, Maine completed two free throws to go ahead by two. The teams battled back and forth with five missed shots before MarJon Beauchamp swished a three-point shot to put the Herd up 116-115. The Herd immediately fouled the Celtics sending them to the line for 1 point to tie the game. The two teams traded four possessions before Paris Bass completed a putback layup to win the game 118-116.

The Herd will hit the road to take on the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Sunday, March 19th with tip-off set for 1:30 p.m. CST.
