HERD TAKES DOWN THE NETS

The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, beat the Long Island Nets 133-118.

Wisconsin Herd’s top scorer was Marquese Chriss with a double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds while Milwaukee Bucks two-way player TyTy Washington Jr. added 24 points. Marques Bolden (23 points, 12 rebounds) and Milwaukee Bucks Assignment player Chris Livingston (12 points, 13 rebounds) posted a double-double each. Seven Herd players finished in double digits.

Keon Johnson led the Long Island Nets with 24 points followed by Kyler Edwards and Davion Warren scored 19 points apiece.

Marquese Chriss and TyTy Washington Jr. got the Herd off to a hot start combining for eight points to give the Herd the lead. Marques Bolden connected on two baskets before Marquese Chriss knocked down seven straight points to put the Herd up by double-digits. The Nets converted on a shot from deep, but Marquese Chriss continued his streak with two more baskets to make it 24-10 at the six-minute mark. The teams traded baskets, but the Herd ultimately pulled away with a 20-point head start. The Nets countered with a 10-2 run, but the Herd held on to lead 44-29 at the end of the first quarter, setting a new record for points scored in a quarter for the Herd this season.

Marques Bolden opened the second quarter with back-to-back baskets. The Nets stayed within 20 until Wisconsin converted on two sequential baskets to put them ahead by 21 with eight minutes remaining in the half. The Herd turned up the heat, hitting a huge 11-4 run to increase the lead to 25. The teams traded baskets until Long Island hit two with less than a minute left to come within 20. Wisconsin held a 71-51 advantage at the break, setting a season-high for points scored in a half. Marquese Chriss guided the Herd with 19 points in the first half.

Marquese Chriss swished a shot from beyond the arc to put the Herd up by 23 on the first possession of the third quarter. TyTy Washington and Marquese Chriss teamed up for seven additional points bringing the game to 81-58. Long Island responded with five uncontested points to break down Wisconsin’s 20-point edge. The Herd’s lead fluctuated between 18-21 until the Nets three straight baskets, making it a 16-point game. Long Island continued the comeback outscoring the Herd 11-5 to come within ten. The Herd hit two more baskets and a last-second three-point by Elijah Hughes kept the Herd ahead 104-91 at the end of the third quarter.

Wisconsin completed a layup to go ahead by 15 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Long Island crawled back with three buckets to come within ten points. Wisconsin powered ahead outscoring the Nets 15-6 in the next four minutes to go back up by nearly 20. The Nets wouldn’t let up charging back making it a 13-point game. Marques Bolden put Long Island behind with six consecutive points. TyTy Washington Jr. and Chris Livingston combined for two buckets to secure the 133-118 win for the Herd.

The Wisconsin Herd will hit the road to take on the Cleveland Charge on Friday, Feb. 9 with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m. CST.
