HERD SWOOP IN TO SPLIT SERIES WITH THE SKYHAWKS

The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, beat the College Park Skyhawks 106-103.

Six Herd players finished with double-digits. Milwaukee Bucks assignment player MarJon Beauchamp propelled the Herd to the win with 22 points while Wenyen Gabriel and TyTy Washington Jr. added 17 points each.

The College Park Skyhawks’ top scorer was Chris Silva with 24 points followed by Robert Baker.

The Skyhawks tipped off the game by converting from beyond the arc, but MarJon Beauchamp was quick to answer with a three to even the game. College Park countered with an 11-4 run to go up 14-7 early in the game. The Herd went on to score the next 10 points to take the lead. The teams tied twice before the Herd built a five-point head start. A lay-up by Elijah Hughes gave the Herd a near double-digit advantage at the two-minute mark. The Skyhawks made back-to-back baskets but a last-second free throw by Alex Antetokounmpo kept the Herd above 37-31 at the end of the first.  

Wisconsin opened the second quarter with an 8-4 run to go up by 10 points. The Skyhawks responded by cutting the Herd’s lead to five points at the eight-minute mark. College Park did not let up, stealing the lead and going up 55-50. The Herd hit the next five points to even the game. The Skyhawks went ahead again but the Herd stayed close keeping the Skyhawks within four. MarJon Beauchamp converted on a free throw bringing the score to 67-65 in favor of College Park. Milwaukee Bucks assignment player MarJon Beauchamp guided the Herd with 13 in the first half.

A dunk by Wenyen Gabriel tied the game early in the third quarter. The Skyhawks went ahead once more before the Herd went on a 14-2 run to take a double-digit advantage at the six-minute mark. The Skyhawks battled back with an 8-3 run to cut the Herd’s lead to five. Glenn Robinson III hit a three-pointer before College Park hit successive dunks to close out the third quarter. The Herd remained on top 87-83.

College Park converted on the first play of the fourth quarter to make it a two-point game. The Herd swished from beyond the arc but the Skyhawks countered with six consecutive points to take the lead 91-90. The teams went back and forth resulting in four lead changes until College Park ran away with seven unanswered points. The Herd swooped in with a crucial 11-0 run to give them a five-point lead with one minute remaining. The Skyhawks hit one more basket but missed the game-tying three-pointer with four seconds left. The Herd took home the victory 106-103.

The Herd will take on the Indiana Mad Ants at home this Saturday, January 20, 2024, with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. CST.
