HERD SUFFERS LOSS ON THE ROAD

The Wisconsin Herd, the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, lost to the Long Island Nets 131-116. The Herd pushed ahead, in the beginning, hitting six three-pointers in the first quarter, but the Nets took charge in the second quarter with a 16-0 run and later closed out the half with a 19-point lead. Alize Johnson and Elijah Hughes teamed up for 14 of the Herd’s 29 points in the third quarter but they made no progress in taking the lead. The Herd rallied in the fourth quarter to cut down the Nets’ lead to 10 points but the Nets stayed ahead to win the game.
A.J. Green led the Herd with 30 points while shooting 71% from the field and securing six of eight three-pointers. Paris Bass followed with 18 points while Alize Johnson added a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Nets were led by David Duke Jr. and Kaiser Gates with 25 points each.
The Herd opened the game shooting hot by hitting three three-pointers to begin the game. The Nets took the lead 12-9 but A.J. Green and Alize Johnson hit a basket each to put the Herd ahead for the first time. The two teams traded the lead five times before the Herd ran away with a seven-point advantage. A.J. Green scored seven of the Herd’s last nine points to close out the first quarter. The Herd was in front 39-30 at the end of the first quarter.
Paris Bass scored back-to-back baskets to open the second quarter. The Nets went on a small run to get within four points, but A.J. Green buried a three to keep the Herd ahead. Elijah Hughes and Paris Bass teamed up for seven points until the Nets came charging back with 16 unanswered points to go ahead by 12 points. Rob Edwards and Alize Johnson completed a basket each before the Nets hit the last basket of the quarter. The Nets led 68-59 at the end of the first half. A.J. Green led the Herd with 15 points while shooting 75% from the field and three-point line.
Alize Johnson and Elijah Hughes worked together to post the first nine points for the Herd in the third quarter. A.J. Green added two buckets, but the Nets were quick to answer both. The Herd flushed two three-point shots followed by Alize Johnson with two baskets. Paris Bass swished two sets of free throws but the Nets hit the last shot of the quarter to go up 101-88.
A.J. Green hit the first basket of the fourth quarter to bring his total to 22 points. The two teams went back and forth answering each basket. The Herd outscored the Nets 13-5 in three minutes to come within 10 points at the four-minute mark. The Nets responded with consecutive baskets to push ahead by 14 points. Jordan Bone drove home two layups, but the Nets secured a set of free throws to end the game. The Nets won 131-116.
The Herd returns home on Wednesday, February 1st to take on the Westchester Knicks at 6:00 p.m. CST.
