HERD EARNS VICTORY AGAINST SQUADRON

The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, beat the Birmingham Squadron 120-107.
Milwaukee Bucks Assignment Player MarJon Beauchamp propelled the Herd with 36 points followed by TyTy Washington Jr. with a double-double of 20 points and 12 assists. Marques Bolden (16 points, 16 rebounds) and Wenyen Gabriel (11 points, 17 rebounds) added a double-double each.
The Birmingham Squadron’s top scorer was Izaiah Brockington with 28 points while E.J. Liddell posted 19 points.
MarJon Beauchamp started the game with a quick one for two free throw, but the Squadron answered immediately with a three-point shot, taking the lead. TyTy Washington Jr. and MarJon Beauchamp combined for three straight shots beyond the arc to go ahead 11-8. Birmingham countered with seven unanswered points to take back the edge. The teams went back and forth resulting in five lead changes. TyTy Washington Jr. and Marques Bolden hit back-to-back shots to go ahead by four. Birmingham scored the next six points to go ahead 31-29 at the end of the first quarter.
The Squadron opened the second quarter with 11 uncontested. The Herd battled back cutting the Birmingham lead to six after a layup by Glenn Robinson III. Wisconsin powered ahead hitting an 8-2 run with Malachi Smith converting on a three-pointer to even the game. Ultimately, the Squadron pulled ahead 55-54 at the break. MarJon Beauchamp guided the Herd with 14 points in the first half.
Birmingham put away a three-point basket to begin the third quarter. Wisconsin responded by outscoring the Squadron 7-2 to take the lead. Birmingham took control once more before the Herd ran away with back-to-back baskets. MarJon Beauchamp added six straight points to give Wisconsin a near double-digit head start. Birmingham charged back to take the advantage with three minutes remaining. Drew Timme swished from deep to tie the game 78-78 while Malachi Smith followed with another three-pointer to push ahead 81-78. The lead seesawed six times before the Squadron closed out the third quarter up 88-87.
The Squadron converted on the first two baskets of the fourth quarter, but the Herd responded with a deadly 13-0 run to go up seven points at the seven-minute mark. Birmingham countered to make it a two-point game, but Wisconsin remained in control. MarJon Beauchamp pushed the Herd ahead by 13 with three consecutive baskets. The Herd held on to win 120-107.
The Wisconsin Herd will hit the road to take on the Delaware Blue Coats on Friday, Jan. 26 with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m. CST.
