Dave Bing - One of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History

Dave Bing is the former mayor for the City of Detroit, retired NBA basketball player and founder of The Bing Group. Under his administration, Bing helped improve city services such as public safety, blight removal, and the city's bus system. Bing also oversaw the construction of Detroit's $60-million Public Safety Headquarters.

Prior to his election as Detroit's 62nd mayor, Bing served as president & chairman of The Bing Group, an automotive supply corporation. Under his tenure, the company was recognized as one of the nation's top minority-owned companies by Black Enterprise magazine.

A former NBA All-Star, Bing was drafted by the Detroit Pistons as the team's No. 1 pick in 1966. He was inducted into the Michigan Hall of Fame in 1984. Bing earned his bachelor's degree in economics and an honorary doctorate of laws degree from Syracuse University.

In 2020, Bing authored, "My Journey from NBA Legend to Business Leader to Big-City Mayor to Mentor" which tells his amazing story of unbelievable perseverance and success from being legally blind in one eye to developing into an NBA Hall of Famer. His saga shared personal growth lessons and excellence he learned along the way ultimately focusing on a mentoring foundation to achieve fundamental change in young men of Detroit.
