Bessie Coleman - First African American Women Pilot

Bessie Coleman was the first African American and Native American woman to hold a pilot license and the first African American to earn an international pilot’s license.

She became a high-profile pilot for dangerous airshows but refused to participate in any aviation events that prohibited the attendance of African Americans. Coleman also spoke to audiences across the country encouraging young pilots to pursue their dreams.
