BENJAMIN BANNEKER - SCIENCE & MATHEMATICS PIONEER

BENJAMIN BANNEKER was known for being a self-taught mathematician, astronomer, and surveyor who helped map the boundaries of Washington D.C. from memory after the project temporarily lost access to the original plans.
Known for his precise astronomical calculations, Benjamin Banneker later published widely read almanacs. Banneker also famously urged Thomas Jefferson to confront the contradictions of slavery and support racial equality.
