HERD FALL AGAINST STARS

The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, lost to the Salt Lake City Stars 139-129.

Milwaukee Bucks Two-Way player TyTy Washington Jr. led the Herd with 34 points while Ryan Rollins followed with 24 points and Malachi Smith added 23 points.

The Salt Lake City Stars' top scorers were Isaiah Thomas with 34 points followed by Kenny Lofton Jr. with 26 points.

Glenn Robinson III knocked down a jump shot to start the game, but the Stars quickly answered with eight straight points. Jeremy Tyler added one basket before Salt Lake City ran away with 12 unanswered points to go ahead 20-4. Aleem Ford converted a three-point play but it didn’t slow Salt Lake City as they built to a 20-point lead. The Stars continued to pull away with a 34-9 advantage at the four-minute mark. The Herd powered back with three consecutive three-pointers by Ryan Rollins and Malachi Smith, but Salt Lake City remained in control. Chris Livingston and Yor Anei hit last-minute buckets to bring the Herd within 22 to close out the first quarter. The Stars led 45-23.

Malachi Smith opened the second quarter with two baskets, but the Stars went on a 7-2 run to develop a 26-point edge. Midway through the quarter, the Herd made a small comeback outscoring the Stars 7-4 for a two-minute stretch. Salt Lake City quickly took over scoring three straight baskets and going ahead by nearly 30. Wisconsin ignited a hot streak with an 11-7 run to make it a 26-point game. The Stars hit one last bucket to end the half in their favor 81-53. Ryan Rollins guided the Herd with 14 points.

Wisconsin launched a comeback outscoring the Stars 12-6 to start the third quarter. The Herd continued to claw back powered by 10 points from TyTy Washington Jr. to cut Salt Lake City’s lead to under 20 points. The Stars responded with back-to-back buckets to go up 100-76.  TyTy Washington Jr. and Ryan Rollins combined for six points to keep the Herd within 20. Wisconsin remained close until the Stars pushed ahead to 113-95 at the end of the quarter.

Salt Lake City knocked down a three-point shot to begin the fourth quarter and go up by 21. Wisconsin answered every Star basket and eventually broke out with three straight baskets to make it a 16-point game with eight minutes remaining. The Stars responded with 10 unanswered points to go up 128-104. The Herd remained in the game and outscored Salt Lake City 17-6 to come within 13 points with two minutes left. The Stars converted a shot from deep, but TyTy Washington Jr. and Malachi Smith combined for five points to bring the Herd within 11. The Stars held on to win 139-129.

The Wisconsin Herd will return home on Friday, March 15 against the Motor City Cruise with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. CT.
